YOUNG PEOPLE'S PSYCHOLOGICAL MONITORING AND SUPPORT PROGRAM

Context and rationale

The mental health of young people is now a major global concern. In Africa, many young people and women face an accumulation of psychosocial challenges: academic pressure, unemployment, social instability, the effects of climate change and weakened family reference points. These realities contribute to increased vulnerability and often silent psychological distress.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental disorders account for up to 11% of risk factors associated with suicide — the fourth leading cause of death among young people aged 15 to 29. UNICEF estimates that one in seven adolescents worldwide lives with a diagnosed mental disorder.

Around 3,000 young people and women will benefit from this program, which aims to listen, understand and respond to mental health needs with appropriate, sustainable and prevention-focused solutions.
